about
Fortunate Ones’ new holiday offering was born out of the ashes of a tough year; one that has been life-altering for so many, in so many ways. Produced by Canadian music legend, Alan Doyle, Hold on to Christmas Day is cautiously hopeful and immediately joyous. It is a send-off to the rollercoaster that has been 2020. It is a deep exhale and a toast to a fresh start, equal parts elegy and anthem.
lyrics
This year was a bastard
What else can you say?
It feels like these 12 months just got in the way
But I gotta believe that we’ll all be okay
If we hold on to Christmas Day
Some days felt like lifetimes without a reprieve
But they’ll read like old news when the trees lose their leaves
And you’ll wake on the far side of all your bad dreams
If we hold on to Christmas Day
What lies up ahead of us nobody knows
And the past is a tale that we’ve already told
We’re all looking for someone or something to hold
So let's hold on to Christmas Day
There’ll be time to be thankful for what we have got
And to let go of things that we know we need not
Like the dew in December, or a blizzard in May
If we hold on to Christmas Day
What lies up ahead of us nobody knows
And the past is a tale that we’ve already told
We’re all looking for someone or something to hold
So let's hold on to Christmas Day
And we’ll hold on
And we’ll hold on
And we’ll hold on
A year’s just a circle round the sun
And we’ll hold on
And we’ll hold on
The good and the bad ones gone and so many yet to come
And we’ll hold on
We’ll learn to look back on the year come and gone
And bury its memory like snow on the lawn
And we’ll tip all our glasses to carrying on
If we hold on to Christmas Day
What lies up ahead of us nobody knows
And the past is a tale that we’ve already told
We’re all looking for someone or something to hold
So let's hold on to Christmas Day
Let’s hold on to Christmas Day
Let’s hold on to Christmas Day
And we’ll hold on
A year’s just a circle round the sun
And we’ll hold on
And we’ll hold on
The good and the bad ones gone and so many yet to come
And we’ll hold on - hold on to Christmas Day
